Sana manalo ang nararapat.
It’s been a really quick month. April is nearing its end already. And that means my birthday is coming real soon. Oh my God. I’m turning 20 already and I still look like a kid from high school. I could shift into another course and my classmates would probably never suspect that I’m so much older than them. That my batch mates are degree holders already. Haha.
Looking young for my actual age is not a really bad thing. You look like you never gets old. But it isn’t a really good thing either. One of my blockmates teases me “tirador ng elementary” because a highschool student asked for my number and he exaggerates things by telling everyone that I like elementary boys. I always have to correct those people who assumes that I’m still in high school and the amused look on their faces gets really annoying already. When old friends see me they always comment on how I never grow tall at all. I’m only 150 cm tall and that’s not even tall at all. Should I say I’m 150 cm short. Oh sheez! I’m seriously underweight I really look like a kid.
This is just a random personal rant. Please bear with me as you won’t see any of my posts on the coming weeks because I’m really busy in school. YEZ! I have summer classes. Lame life. Sucks right?
This year’s Summer Getaway with highschool friends!
Graduate na sila! Susunod na ako! Yay!
It was scorching hot. The students never tried to get out of the room and leave the comfort that the airconditioner provides. It was going to be just another day. Another ordinary day.
But no! Something different happened that day.
*pardon the weird opening lines, i know i’m hopeless*
It was last Wednesday when we got to talk to the Dean of CE-EnSE of MIT, Engr. Francis Uy and a professor and the former Dean of the Faculty of Engineering in UST, Engr. Peter Lim. Along with other representatives, they were evaluating and assessing the College of Engineering in BatState-U. Part of that is talking to the students, asking them questions about the faculty, the laboratory experiments and equipments and the overall activities of our department. It so happened that by the time they were ready to talk to students, we were the only class available in the CE department. And it was totally awesome!
Sure thing, we got a little nervous because we weren’t briefed about what we were supposed to say. And that we know that we were not the group of students they will present to the visitors if they had any options. But everything went nice.
Firstly, they asked us if we were informed about Washington Accord. Well we were not so they filled us in with information about it. Not literally explained the whole thing, just a little of this and that for us to get the idea. So this Washington Accord signed in 1989 recognises substantial equivalence in the accreditation of qualifications in professional engineering, normally of four years duration. They told us that if a country, let’s say The Philippines becomes a member of the Washington Accord, every Engineer in the Philippines will be recognized by other countries that we have met the academic requirements to practice engineering in there. Cool right. The thing is we are not a signatory country. But people have been working on it, thus the evaluation of the engineering universities in the country.
They asked us lots of questions so they can propose a set of recommendations to the administration on how to improve the quality of education in our university.
One of the issues discussed was the rate of CE Board Passers. It was noticed that our rate of passers is actually pretty low. They told us that it was quite understandable as we were not tracked. Being tracked means that the professors must have Masters Degree to teach a subject.
Engr. Lim and Engr.Uy were so gracious in sharing their knowledge and opinions on lots of different things. They even gave us words of encouragement. They knew that we feel inferior to other engineering courses particularly the Mechanical Engineering department. They tried boosting our confidence and it was really cool because you don’t always get to hear great words from people like them.
I don’t know where this post is going. I just want to share that really awesome moment we had last week. It doesn’t happen everyday! Haha.
Same Same ~ Love Isn’t
Do you ever wake up in the morning alone?
And do you ever wish that there was some way you could stay at home?
With somebody who loves you and needs you
With somebody who helps to complete you
But I’ve made mistakes and I know for sure
I won’t forget to remember
The trouble is that they did not make it as a duo. They might’ve had a small success in Asia but that’s it. Anyhow, this song is what I only like from the album (maybe because I did not dare to listen to the other tracks). I like the honesty of the song and its simple melody. This is perfect for a sunny afternoon nap.
